In front of the Baroco church of the Mexican town. The atrium bursts with color several

groups of Concheros are jumping and whirling in brilliant plumed headdresses,

playing their own accompaniment in elemental chords on inlaid lute-like instruments.

Oblivious of the audience the dance with sharp precision, with Indian intentness,

with lowered eyes and body at once relaxed and alert.

Their instrument, La Concha, gives the dance its name.

Their dance was perfomed before the Spanich Conquest, so say Los Choncheros.
